Nuremberg is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Germany, with so much to see and do you'll need a couple of days minimum to get to know the city.
It is very popular in summer, when the Altstadt comes alive with street theatre and music performances, as well as a number of open-air concerts held in the many parks and stadiums of the city.
Nuremberg is also filled with history and has many interesting museums and landmarks that are well worth a visit. Add on to all of this the friendly and hospitable nature of the locals, and you've got a city that's not to be missed. |
| Nurembrg Essentials |
Toy Museum - Nuremberg is one of the major toy centres of the world, which is why this museum is one of the city's top attractions. The museum has three floors, filled with handmade and machine made toys, some dating back to medieval times.
Germanic National Museum - This museum is the biggest museum of German art and culture. Exhibitiojns cover the whole of German craftsmanship and fine arts from their beginnings to the 20th century.
St Lorenz Church - This church is the largest and most impressive in Nuremberg, building of the church began in 1270 and took over 200 years to complete. Most of the church's stained and painted glass dates back to the 15th century.
Albrecht Durer House - his is Nuremberg's most famous shrine, and is the only completely preserved Gothic house in town, dating back to the 15th century. The house exhibits displays on Durer's life and works, and the rooms are furnished with historical pieces.
Kaiserburg - The castle sits on a hill that overlooks the city, and it was the official residence of the German Kings from 1050 to 1571. The castle has three complexes: the Kaiserburg; the Burgraves' Castle; and the Municipal Buildings of the Free City. |

Nuremberg Bardentreffen (end of July) - This annual open air music festival is one of themost popular of its kind in Germany. It attracts top local and international artists from all different musical backgrounds. |
